About Diverse Harmony
Our Story and Evolution
Diverse Harmony was founded in Seattle in 2002 as the nation’s first gay-straight alliance youth chorus. Over the years we saw the choir grow to nearly 60 members and bring performances to communities throughout Seattle in our regular two-concert season. The chorus also performed tours to Denver, Chicago, Montreal, Miami, and Portland in pre-COVID times.
After a challenging period during the pandemic, our spirits have soared, and our music is back with a joyful new chapter! Diverse Harmony of the South Sound began rehearsals in January 2025 in Tacoma. The new ensemble had our debut performance in March 2025 together with the Fluidity adult treble chorus!
Diverse Harmony serves as a safe space for our singers who identify as queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and allied. Weekly rehearsals are a home base for many of our youth where they can feel respected and accepted, and have fun making music together.
Diverse Harmony of the South Sound is currently welcoming new singers who are ages 12-18 and are LGBTQ+, friends, and allies. Diverse Harmony rehearses most Monday afternoons during the school year. No tuition or membership fee is required of singers, and we accept all levels of musical ability.
We are excited about the future!
